Women’s Employment Survey: Barriers, Needs, Opportunities

An analysis of NEET (“Neither in Education, Employment or Training”) statistics in Turkey clearly shows that the issue has a critical gender dimension. While women are more likely to be NEET, according to TUIK data, women have lower access to education than men.

In terms of women’s employment, the labor force participation rates of women and men with the same level of education differ; while only 34.4% of women are in the labor force, compared to 72% of men.

NEET women are not unidirectional within themselves either. It is understood that this group is divided into sub-groups that differ in terms of marital status, perceptions towards working life and education level. The Needs Assessment Research aims to identify the barriers to NEET women’s participation in employment and education, to understand the problems of different segments of this group, and to define in detail their needs and the concrete opportunities that may arise.

INGEV TAM (Center for Social Research) launched the field phase of the Needs Analysis study it is conducting within the scope of the UNDP NEET (“Neither in Education, Employment or Training”) Women Project in August.
