Turkey is ranked # 72 in the Human Development Index

In 2015 Human Development Report was released on December 14 in Addis Ababa. This year’s main theme of the report was ‘ work ‘. According to the report, 3.2 billion of the 7.3 billion people in the world are employed, while 74 million; consisting of 204 million young people are unemployed. In the world about 830 million people earn less than $ 2 a day and more than1.5 billion people are deprived from good/safeworking conditions and social security.

Turkey ranks 72, among 188 countries (in the high human development category); last year Turkey was 69. Turkey scored the best in the area long life and the weakest area was access to information and lifelong learning.

Between 1980 and 2014 Turkey’s human development index value rose to 0.761 from 0.492. Turkey with this value is far below the European Union average of 0.867 and OECD average 0.882. In the Social Gender Inequality Index, Turkey ranked 71 among 155 countries.
